Oil-Free Spicy Spinach & Spirulina Hummus

Hummus is almost like the savoury version of a smoothie. We know that green smoothies can be incredibly healthy, therefore so can be green hummus! The combination of spinach, spirulina, chickpeas and tahini, creates a true nutrient powerhouse! What's more, this unique recipe is entirely oil-free. 

We’ve spread ours on bread, but it’s also delicious as a dip for carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers!


  • 240g chickpeas (1 tin)
  • 50g blanched spinach
  • 30g aquafaba (chickpea liquid from tin)
  • 30g lemon juice
  • 20g tahini
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1tsp (5g) Naturya Spirulina powder
  • 1tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp black salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder (or to taste)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper


  • Drain the can of chickpeas but keep the liquid for later use (this is aquafaba)
  • Blanch the spinach in boiling hot water for 2-3 minutes
  • Drain the spinach and squeeze out the excess water
  • Add all the ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy, scraping the sides down a few times along the way
  • Serve as a dip with vegetables or spread on toast with tahini, cucumber, roasted red pepper, rocket, balsamic glaze, Naturya Seed Crunch Breakfast Boost and enjoy!
